Presidents Report: Juliet Redding
For me it has been an amazing year as President for TMBC, such huge learning curve amid an incredible year of change. We have gone from a three year Strategic Plan focussed only on Jubilee Park to a full Escarpment Proposal in conjunction with TRC and Dirt Art. This will take us from a local trail system to a national mountain biking destination with over a 100kms of trail proposed to be built over both Jubilee and Redwood Parks and the Quarry to serve as a hub for events and facilities. We have successfully run five race events, Club social events, we’ve maintained and remediated our trail network and built a further 5kms of new trails bringing our trail system up to 30kms. There has been a huge change in not only how the park looks, but the people riding and getting involved in the sport. The structure of the club has changed to bring in more people and processes and to support a continuation of that growth. It’s been an exciting year to see new businesses starting up and established business increasing around the work that TMBC does in this community. Shuttles with Matt Adkins, Scott & Justin’s Trail building business, Trailworx expanding, our incredible bike shops doing so well in times of plague, Bearskins and starting to reach out to our schools to develop coaching opportunities and encourage more kids into mountain biking.
While the Covid situation has changed our world, I personally have felt very lucky to be able to ride into Jubilee and still get my fix of nature, exercise, the challenge and freedom you feel when you ride. It’s been incredible to see the growth in the popularity of the sport as we see more families and young children riding on the weekend.
All this has been achieved by volunteers, an incredible group of hard working, passionate people that selflessly give their time so that we can enjoy the trails, events and community. When you see these people on the trails please remember to thank them. It is that time of year when we get to vote in the next Executive and committee but before we do, we will need to do the official side of the meeting. Mat McColley for the Treasurers Report.
