Mackenzie Frenzy

Starting at Harvey Street and finishing at Amos Road, but Harvey don’t rhyme with Frenzy, so Mackenzie (the next closest Street) Frenzy it is, it’s just that simple. Mackenzie Frenzy was Queensland’s first legal Down Hill trail. This double black diamond gem is a 1.7 km flat out banger. Those with the skills and grit to send this trail are rewarded with 3 – 5 minutes of pure adrenaline. Big jumps, huge drops, loose corners, off camber, a road gap, ski jump, and oh that rock garden.

Back in the early 2000’s, Redwood Park, Picnic Point, Jubilee Park and Hell Hole Creek were all explored as options for a legal trail, due to concerns over the ever increasing “Pirate Trail” network in and around Toowoomba. Greg Geldard, the founding President of the TMBC, relentlessly lobbied the TRC for over a year, and successfully secured permission for the club to build in Jubilee Park around 2004. Jubilee Park was initially a no go due to environmental concerns. After many false starts, and road blocks, Council eventually conceded the cleared land near the existing power lines, and Frenzy was born. During the initial line walk with council the rock garden was discovered. The council representative is rumoured to have said “I don’t know what you plan to do about that” to which Greg just smiled and replied “ Oh we know exactly what to do with that”.

The hand built Frenzy has evolved over the years, but it will always be treasured as Queensland’s first legal DH trail, the one that paved the way for all the other trails to follow. Without Greg’s tenacity Jubilee park may never have eventuated and become what it is today. The TMBC held Round 4 of the SEQ DH on Frenzy in 2021, and the sheer volume of riders, and supporters made one thing clear; Mackenzie Frenzy is dearly loved, and here to stay.
