Location: East Toowoomba Bowls club

Attendees: Tom Glover (TG), Cam Carlile (CC), Dave Warner (DW), Waide Brennan (WB) Gillian Chesterfield (GC), Sonya Clarke (SC)

Apologies: Mat McColley, (MM), Brendan Perks (BP)

Minutes:

Declared open by TG at 7:16pm

Previous minutes declared true and correct by DW.

1. Presidents report: (TG)

Social night ride was a success with good attendance across skill and age levels. Grant submitted to TRC for Turkey/ Dirty Granny project. Plenty of rain (again) in park will no doubt impact grass and weed growth. Acquittal for timing gear due end of month.

2. Treasures report: (TG)
Currently $29.5K in bank with $9K to be acquitted. Membership numbers are a little skewed due to ongoing AusCycling issues. MTBA: 143 full members with 53 supporters – hoping that this can be amended before next meeting.

3. Go Fund Me update (TG/CC)
Currently just over $3K raised - thanks to all who have donated so far. GC – use more social rides to promote this. CC - Potential to approach bike shops to add on extra to sale price. Socials to be used, but not over saturated as this will potentially drop hype.

4. DH Race (TG)
TG
met with Jacob Simpson to confirm what is happening. SEQ DH likely not running but Jake confirmed a lot of the ground work is done, with clubs looking to take ownership. TG will speak to Mark White about assistance in running this as a club event with the club hiring more chips. This should also result in a higher profit for the club. Track will likely be full Frenzy as fire road changes have resulted in the Hot Rod into Frenzy link being unrideable. Club will speak to Matt from Frenzy MTB to come on as a title sponsor for the event. Medics will also need to be sourced.

5. Petition Launch (TG/CC)
On the back of last meeting, the club has decided to raise a petition around: Maintenance, more trail funding and agreeance to the proposed MOU. Club will plan to launch this in the coming month.

6. AGM (TG)
AGM due to occur in May. Club will have details at April meeting and upcoming Newsletter.

7. General Business

Riders have raised concerns around exposed part of Danomite with both land slip and trees down.
GC & TG –
At the moment it seems rather difficult to progress the trail development and master plan and is taxing on all involved. Club should look to shift focus to social aspect and more existing trail development over the current weed management. All agree to discuss at further meetings, particularly with AGM approaching and potential for new exec.
Next club Funduro to focus on lower part of Jubilee with a current working date of May 9th. CC will run exec through event timing operations.
TRC due to commence toilet block works next to power pole at Bridge St trail head with plans to be completed by EOFY.

Works should almost be completed on a 5-week program. CHadvised that contractor has mentioned that they may be completed by end of week. NR noted that works looked good from a recent ride. Council updates have been that works is currently on track.Club will update once this has been completed. This should complete all fire road works until EOFY. Amos rd. also now fully sealed and open. Club will arrange for second container to be moved up to the grassy knoll once completed.

5. Go Fund Me (GFM) for North Face
Club has set up a Go Fund Me (GFM) for the North Face Project with the hopes of raising $50K for council to then match 75% of total. Build will be quite large with difficult terrain. Link will be via a blurb on the TMBC website to ensure that people are utilising the website. Project may be hindered by current council plans for environmental and cultural works. Maintenance turnout has been amazing to keep grass and weeds under control. Only trails yet to be reopened are Calibre down and HotRod (due to fire road works). CC hoping to attack Calibre down this weekend. Middle section of Frenzy also will require maintenance post fire road works.

TG raised ongoing conversation around council assisting with trail weed management – all agree that petition will have this aspect built in. MC suggested club tent set up on weekends to promote petition and raise awareness. CH suggested speaking to other clubs who have been successful in securing funding. CC Raised motion – WB Seconded.

TG noted that Bridge St. Toilet Block works will be completed before EOFY.

7. General Business

Welcome to the commitee Gillian.

TMBC would like to welcome our newest executive on the committee. Last month Gillian Chesterfield was voted in for the Womens Co-Ordinator role. The entire committee is excited to have her on board, Gillian is an extremely passionate lady and is already firmly embedded in our MTB community and we look forward to her input, ideas and positive attitude to help progress our club and the longevity of Jubilee Park. Here is a little bit of a whos who from Gillian herself.

Hi there,

I thought that I should be proactive and introduce myself as having been firstly nominated and then voted on to the Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club Board of Executives as the Women’s Coordinator.

If you haven’t heard, this is a role that has been created by TMBC to ensure we have an active female voice alongside men in our fast-growing sport.  I hope to be able to build a sense of community and connection between the members of TMBC and its wider community and ensure that our trails continue to grow physically and form a foundation for mountain bike recreational activities, social connection and community spirit.

A little about me, I’ve been riding since 2017, not as long as some but longer than lots of others.  I don’t like falling off but do fairly regularly.  My husband and daughter ride, they’re not experts but definitely have “the riding bug”.  My favourite trail in Jubilee is Defib, its quick and can be done more than once if time allows.  I am the race director for Fox on Rocks – Covid 19 edition and I’m looking forward to bringing that event together in 2021.

RIDER BRIEF

Riders Brief Queensland Enduro Series Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club - Round 2

Welcome to round 2 of the 2020 race season. It’s now time to hit the trails in the great atmosphere that is, the original enduro series in Australia. The Queensland Enduro Series caters for all levels of riders from the A line elite riders to the first-time riders out for a great day with family and friends.

SPECTATORS Spectators must report to registration at Amos Road OR scan the QR codes at other entries to record their arrival time. Event passes will be ready for all spectators that have indicated they will be attending through the online rider entry process. Spectators are also asked to report to the registration desk before leaving to record their departure time. This is a COVID compliance requirement set out by State Health and will help to ensure racing can continue.

Registration will open from 8 am to 10amTo allow riders to spread out and minimise contact, there will be a 2 hours registration window in which you can pick up your race plate and start racing. Please come to registration ready to race with your bike and all mandatory equipment on. (U17s, U15s, U13s that includes knee pads and elbow pads and gloves).

For example, if you pick up your plate at 8am you finish by 12pm, if you pick up at 10 am you finish at 2 pm. As usual you will have 4 hours to complete all stages. This will minimise lines at registration and at the beginning of stages. Your pickup time will be noted at registration and we will be able to see the time of day you finish the last stage through the timing software. It is very important that everyone who participates strictly observe social distancing throughout the whole event. Always keep a bike length away from others.

STARTWhen you come to each start line where people may be lined up, please ensure that you follow the markings and bunting to ensure a safe 1.5 distance. Do not overlap wheels.

TIMINGAs usual all timing points are automated. Start marshals will be checking that a minimum of 30 seconds is left between each rider. You can ask for more time between you and the next rider if you feel it is needed. Give each other as much space as possible. There will also be a finish marshal, roving marshals and COVID marshals ensuring everything is running smoothly.

FIRST AID First aid will be provided paramedics. If you come across an injured rider stop and help them and send the next rider that comes along to the finish to alert the marshal. They will stop racing on that stage and send for the medics. You will be allowed to restart the stage or take an average time. This will be your choice. If you require medical assistance for any reason throughout the day, we urge you to see the medics in the event centre.

RERUNS Reruns without penalty will only be permitted if you can show that the reason you needed a re-run was for something that was out of your control. Reruns must be approved prior to starting your rerun by the Commissaire.

FINISH When you finish a stage move clear of the finish line before stopping. If meeting up with friends at the end of a stage run, ensure to maintain social distancing. We will ensure that there is plenty of space at the finish of every stage. If it looks like it’s getting crowded, we will hold the start.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a compulsory liaison stage at the end of Stage 1 (Defib descent) – please follow the signs and enjoy the mellow climb back to the top.

RESULTS Results will be published LIVE throughout the weekend, so you can check your results. Results will be collated across categories and will be made official at the end of racing on Sunday. You will be asked at registration If you have read this briefing, hard copies will be available if you have not.

PRESENTATIONS Podium positions will be available online shortly after racing finishes on Sunday. We post series points after the completion of the race as usual. As the series has been compacted into only a few months you will be able to pick up your trophy at the next round or after the race. If you are unable to pick up your trophy, let us know and we will have it posted out to you.

  • Sanitise your hands regularly. Hand sanitiser will be available.

  • Always maintain social distancing.

  • If you have a cold or flu-like symptoms - DO NOT COME. We reserve the right to deny entry if you have a fever or show flu-like symptoms.
